Recipe for Kunchelsteuchen (From the Linnean castle kitchen)
½ c. warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
½ cup warm milk
1 egg
1/3 cup butter, softened
1/3 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
3 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
1 package (.25 oz.) active dry yeast
3 Tablespoons butter, softened
TOPPING:
¼ cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
¼ cup butter
DIRECTIONS:
Mix water and milk in a microwavable bowl and warm/cook it in the microwave for 1 minute and 15 seconds. Pour this into a mixing bowl, stir in the sugar until it dissolves, then stir in the yeast. After it becomes foamy, mix in the salt, butter and egg, then mix in the flour ½ cup at a time. Let this mixture in the bowl rise for about 45 minutes in a warm place, then punch it down, and divide it into 16 balls. Place them on an ungreased cookie sheet. Cover them with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise in a warm place for another hour. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
Let them cool for 3-4 minutes on a wire rack.
For the topping, mix together ¼ cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon in a bowl. In another bowl, melt ¼ cup butter. Dip the tops of the rolls in butter, then in the cinnamon and sugar mixture. Enjoy!
